| Volunteering & Contact Us |
|
GPST only exists through the willingness of parents/guardians, family and friends to volunteer. Some of the volunteer positions sound a bit intimidating when you are new to this sport. Keep in mind we all were new to racing at one time or another. The intent of this section is to provide an overview of the volunteer positions during a race. Note: The jobs with an asterisk (*) do not require the volunteer to be on skis. As you get comfortable, you can volunteer for any of the other jobs that interest you.
-
Scoreboard*: Writing the racers time down on the large display sheets. (Skis not required)
-
Starters*: Timing
official that communicates with the timer on the racer’s bib number and
tells the racer when s/he can start. (Skis not required)
-
Line up*: Lines up the racers to start the race. (Skis not required, however a loud voice helps!)
-
Racecourse set up and tear down (skiing required): Assists the course setter (usually a coach) set the racecourse. These volunteers: carry gates, screw in and remove gates and preform course repair.
-
Timing*: Computer experience is required. This person runs the race! This position is a lot of fun, and very busy. It takes some time to learn, but you are always in a warm location and can see the race.
-
Gate Judges: (Depending upon location skis may or may not be required.) Races cannot be held without gate judges. Gate Judges watch racers to ensure they properly complete the racecourse keeping it fair for all competitors.
