GPST Racing & NASTAR

GPST Racing is for ALL GPST members!!!

Who: Boys and Girls ages 19 and under (Age Classes J6-J1)
Racing Levels: All abilities – two racing levels Citizens & Masters. (GPST Coaches have the ability to assign starting locations based on a racers ability and confidence.) Boys and Girls compete in separate classes.
When & What:
The GPST Home Races are on Sunday afternoon from 1–4 PM throughout the season

(Click here for the GPST Calendar of Events) at the Granite Peak Ski Area on Exhibition Run. All GPST members 19 and under of all abilities are encouraged to participate in GPST Races.

GPST Home Races will be assigned by racing ability (Citizens or Masters), then by Age Class.  Citizens Racers are usually racers that cannot comfortably race from the top of the hill. Citizen Racers will race on terrain suitable for their skills.  Masters Racers are experienced racers who can race on the upper slopes at Granite Peak. Masters racers will start from the top of Exhibition.

Parent Coach volunteers are needed.  GPST Team Coaches help the Parent Coaches and racers with tips and pointers to help GPST racers improve throughout the season.

Racers will meet with their Parent Coachers in front of the Chalet (on snow ready to go) at 12:45 PM.  At 1 PM coaches and racers will go uphill for course inspection. Racing will starting at 1:30 PM with the starting order to be determined by the Head Coach. All racers will have the opportunity to take up to two runs. The best time of two runs will be used for scoring and medals. When the team is not inspecting or racing the Team Coaches may have the opportunity to ski and do some practice with their team.

Finish place points are compiled throughout the year with awards presented at the end of the year GPST “Finish” Banquet.  Citizens Racers will compete for GPST Medals based upon their sex and in the age classes below:

  • Class J6, ages: 1-4, 5-6, 7-8,
  • Class J5, ages: 9-10
  • Class J4, ages: 11-12
  • Class J3, ages: 13-14
  • Class J2, ages: 15-16
  • Class J1, ages: 17-19

Masters (SL and GS) races use the racer’s age class (above) and race finish place for GPST medals. Additionally GS races will use NASTAR (see NASTAR below) as a basis for racers to earn NASTAR medals. Racers after winning two races in a season are “moved up” into the next age class. Finish place points are compiled throughout the year with awards presented at the end of the year GPST “Finish” Banquet. Masters racers can also follow their GS results at www.NASTAR.com, and may qualify as a team or individuals for NASTAR Nationals.

Every week at the end of each GPST race, an Awards Ceremony is held.
Medals are presented to Citizens Racers and Masters Racers based upon their class.

Season awards for Citizens and Masters Teams are presented at the end of the year GPST “Finish” Banquet.

NASTAR

The GPST uses NASTAR for all GPST GS (Giant Slalom) races.  NASTAR (NAtional STAndard Race) is a way for racers to compete against themselves, other local and national racers and the top skiers in the United States. GPST is listed in the rankings on NASTAR and many of the GPST member have raced at nationals.

Please click on this link to learn more about NASTAR

A goal of GPST is to send a team of racers to NASTAR Nationals. Racer's times are automatically recorded to NASTAR.com and for current racing results and handicap listings.
